Today, we reflect on the events of this time twelve years ago when 173 people tragically lost their lives in the 2009 fires. As our communities have forever changed, the loss will never be forgotten nor will the bravery of our firefighters.

After years invested in research and development, today AttentisĀ® has a complete range of self-powered smart sensors that offer industries, organisations and even individuals the opportunity to have 24-hour situational awareness. They measure an array of conditions including air quality, weather, noise, fire, machinery failure, ground and structural movement, as well as stream hi-definition video and thermal imaging and
provide alerts detailing changes, threats and faults.

We are delighted to have partnered with McMahon Services Australia Pty Ltd to deliver this technology across their building, demolition and decommissioning, asset closures, hazardous waste, civil and remediation projects.

At 5.33pm on Friday 23rd October, one of our sensors that forms part of the Latrobe Valley Information Network (LVIN.org) sent an alert notification after detecting abnormally high readings of PM1 and PM2.5 - indicating the presence of smoke.

The sensor located at Rifle Range Road in Glengarry North, a dirt access road used to access the surrounding pine tree plantations, was installed to provide 24-hour unmanned monitoring of this high fire risk location. This particular sensor provides 24-hour weather, air quality monitoring, fire detection, thermal and visual imaging of the plantation.

Investigation of the alert revealed smoke was visible on the sensor cameras and the downloadable time-lapse video revealed the extent of the ignition adjacent to the plantation.

Emergency services and the plantation owners were notified of the ignition and rapidly investigated the cause.

The 24-hour unmanned detection, notification, and investigation capability of our sensors in the Latrobe Valley provides community confidence. A small fire event like this, coupled with night and high wind conditions and its proximity to a plantation could have resulted in a fire in the plantation, threatening the neighbouring community.

We are proud in the knowledge that our technology continues to keep the Latrobe Valley community safe. We strive to deliver this level of confidence to other communities.
