Please share and be aware this holiday break 🤍

Last night, this beautiful female koala was hit on the Calder Freeway and left injured on the road.
Two people, Laura and Lila, saw her, stopped, rendered assistance and called Wildlife Victoria. Because of them, she wasn’t left to die on the side of the freeway.

Her injuries were severe. We brought her back to our shelter for a proper assessment, but she had a broken leg and internal trauma. There was no chance of recovery, and we had no choice but to end her suffering.

That decision is never easy. It weighs heavily every time. My heart breaks for each one lost.
She was young. She should’ve had years ahead of her. She is now buried on our property.

We’ve done countless posts asking people to slow down and drive to the conditions. We’ve done newspaper articles, and Karl has spoken at the Parliamentary Inquiry into wildlife road-strike. I’m struggling to find new words, because for us it is the same story — just with different, very real victims.

So can we ask you a favour?
Please help be their voice.

If you’re able, share this message with family, friends, and coworkers. We desperately need more people aware, we need the message to reach others.

If you haven’t already, please save Wildlife Victoria’s emergency number in your phone:
📞 03 8400 7300 (other states have their own wildlife rescue numbers).

One call can save a life or prevent suffering.

Koalas are blissfully unaware of what roads & cars/trucks are.
But as drivers, we all understand the danger roads pose to wildlife, and with that understanding comes responsibility.

Until real, meaningful solutions are put in place, the simplest actions remain the most powerful ones: slowing down, staying alert, and making the call if you do hit wildlife.

Please don’t drive on without reaching out for help.
Please don’t assume someone else will.

Because every koala deserves more than fear, pain, or being left alone — and sometimes, your choice is the difference between life, mercy, and unnecessary suffering.

We have truck drivers in B-doubles who reach out to us because they cannot safely stop. If someone driving a B-double at 100 km/h can make a call to get a koala help, then anyone can.

Together we can all show compassion.
