I'm thrilled to share my painting, 'Waiting for Smart', received a Highly Commended at the Clayton Utz Art Award last Thursday!

A huge thank you to Clayton Utz and Lethbridge Gallery for hosting such a wonderful evening, and for the opportunity to meet so many talented artists.

“The apparent simplicity of Waiting for Smart tends to mask its clever wit and multiple layers. The composition is structured by the placement of the deckchairs that tell a story of life mirroring art, and of stories yet to be told.”

My first image shows the painting installed in one of the Clayton Utz boardrooms at Riparian Plaza, where it will hang for the next twelve months. I’ve also shared a few images from my process — early sketches, colour tests, the first brushstrokes, and a short time-lapse of the painting stages.

I finished my foggy morning painting a month ago, just in time to enter the 16th Lethbridge Small Scale Art Award—and I'm excited to announce it has been selected as a finalist!

I'm honoured to be part of the exhibition and the Latrobe Art Space in Paddington from 29 August to 13 September.
