Future retrieval doctors in the making 🩺
We recently welcomed a group of Griffith University medical students to our Brisbane base for a behind‑the‑scenes look at LifeFlight in action 🚁
From hopping inside the helicopter and jet, to running through medical simulations, the group got a real feel for what it takes to deliver critical care in the air.
A big thanks to Dr Brad Richardson for guiding the session and sharing his experience on the front line!
We love being able to provide hands‑on experience and inspire the next generation of retrieval doctors, because today’s students are tomorrow’s life‑savers 🙌

A big mission for our Bundy-based crew yesterday 🚁🛥️
Our team spent 13 hours completing a complex offshore rescue after a fisherman broke his leg on a trawler about 110 nautical miles off the Rockhampton coast.
With rough sea conditions, the crew had to carry out a winch onto the moving deck, where our rescue crew officer and QAS flight paramedic assessed and stabilised the patient. Getting him back to the helicopter wasn’t possible in those conditions, so the crew adapted. They landed on Heron Island, where the patient was transferred by boat to meet them.
Pilot Alex Dorr said it was the most challenging rescue of his career.
"It's one of those jobs that you go 'wow'", he said.
"After 15-20 years in the game, it was absolutely a standout. They were very challenging conditions and challenging to get the crew on the back of the boat."
After nearly 950 kilometres of flying and multiple refuels, the man was brought back to our Bundaberg base and taken to hospital in a stable condition.
An incredible effort from everyone involved 💙
