EVENING RECEPTION AT THE EMBASSY
An Evening of Art, Friendship and Shared Heritage at the Embassy of Greece.
Following the historic live painting session at Australian Parliament House, His Excellency Ambassador Stavros Venizelos and his wife Lara hosted an intimate evening reception at the Embassy of Greece in Canberra to commemorate the occasion — bringing together a distinguished gathering of diplomatic, community and parliamentary figures around a selection of works by artist Caroline Rovithi.
Among those in attendance were the Very Reverend Father Petros Kipouros; Honorary Consul-General of Greece in Queensland, Mr George Mastrocostas; Mr Steve Georganas MP; His Excellency Mr Antonis Sammoutis, High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus in Australia; and Mr John Loukadellis, President of the Greek Community of Canberra, alongside other honoured guests.
The evening was a moment to pause, reflect and celebrate, not only the extraordinary cultural achievement of the day, but the deep and enduring bonds between Greece and Australia that make moments such as this possible.
The Honorary Consulate-General of Greece in Queensland extends its warm gratitude to His Excellency Ambassador Venizelos and his wife Lara, for their gracious and generous hospitality.

LIVE PAINTING AT PARLIAMENT HOUSE
A Greek Artist. The Halls of Australian Parliament House. A Work Born from Two Nations.
In a rare and deeply symbolic moment, acclaimed Greek visual artist Caroline Rovithi commenced a landmark live artwork inside Mural Hall, one of the most distinguished spaces within Australian Parliament House — a cultural initiative conceived and brought to life under the patronage of Honorary Consul-General of Greece in Queensland, Mr George Mastrocostas, in collaboration with the Embassy of Greece in Australia.
Witnessed by parliamentarians, parliamentary staff and invited guests, the session marked the beginning of a work titled “Eternal Weave” — a vibrant, textural composition in which the Greek and Australian flags rise from a tightly braided foundation and open into the form of a floating heart. Two homelands. One heart.
The piece will be completed in the artist’s studio before being formally presented by the Embassy of Greece as an official gift to the Parliament of Australia.
That a work speaking to migration, belonging, dual identity and shared future was begun within the very institution that upholds the democratic values both nations share was no coincidence. It was the point.
The Honorary Consulate-General of Greece in Queensland congratulates Caroline Rovithi on this extraordinary achievement and extends its deep gratitude to the Honourable Milton Dick MP, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Senator the Honourable Sue Lines, President of the Senate, for making this occasion possible.

UNIVERSITY OF QUEENSLAND
Where Ancient Greece Meets Modern Discovery
Few moments during His Excellency Ambassador Stavros Venizelos official visit were as moving as the engagement at The University of Queensland. Honorary Consul-General of Greece in Queensland, Mr George Mastrocostas, accompanied the Ambassador as he met with Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Deborah Terry AC, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Brett Lovegrove IEAA-F, and Associate Professor David Pritchard, before being treated to a remarkable exhibition tracing the migration of Greeks from the Ionian Islands to Brisbane.
To see the stories of our ancestors preserved and celebrated within one of Australia’s finest universities was deeply humbling. UQ is doing extraordinary work in honouring the Greek contribution to this nation.
