Miss Demeanour Open Mic Night - 13th April 2026

It was another lovely night at this event in the heart of Brisbane’s Central Business District, and what made it even better is that the audience were for the most part attentive and sang along to many of the performances! That is rare to see at this venue, as far as open mics held here go. Chris Stan was up first, and he played two songs on keyboard and a third on acoustic guitar and harmonica. That last one was his upcoming single “The Other Side”, which should be released in a few weeks time. So far two of his original songs are available on streaming platforms, with plenty more where those came from.

Kev was a newcomer to this open mic, and he impressed the event’s organiser Dan Whittam as well as the audience with his confidence and his guitar-playing ability. His singing was right up there as well! Frog The Baddie Hunter was third on the sign-up board this evening, and two of the songs in his setlist were “Right Here Waiting” by Richard Marx and “We Gotta Get Outta This Place.” The latter was famously covered by The Angels, and naturally everyone sang along! Even Frog himself was surprised at that, especially at a place like Miss Demeanour!

Allan Drummond took his turn on stage, and played a few songs that he had previously performed with his band Free Association. David was another newcomer to this open mic, and his “fifteen minutes of fame” featured him playing one really long improvised piece of music on piano! His skill set was second to none! David Truong of Ambition Road made sure the ivories continued to get a thorough workout when he began his set with an original song entitled “Tainted Glasses.” The rest of his performance was of the usual high standard as well.

Manon was yet another newcomer to this open mic, who as it turned out had travelled all the way from France! She was accompanied by Chris Stan on keyboard, and she sang the first song of her set in French. The other two numbers were in English, with one of them being the timeless classic “Fly Me To The Moon.” Manon has a stunning voice and vocal range, with the latter really being pushed to the max with the final song of her set. Saxophonist JC also joined in on the fun with a few smooth grooves and solos.

W***y brought his slide guitar skills to this open mic, and it was nice to see this rather unique style of playing once again. Nate Eggins, better known as Conspiracy Of One, began his set with a song he was asked to write for a space station. He is really into this kind of stuff, so who better to write a song of this nature than him? He also performed a few covers, and they were “Kokomo” by The Beach Boys as well as “Smooth Operator” by Sade. JC also joined Nate on these songs, and they went down a real treat. This wonderful night of entertainment concluded with a jam session, which was a lot of fun to witness.

As for me, this was my first visit to Miss Demeanout since January this year. I once again decided to do a solo set, and the songs were the same ones that I had performed the previous week at Tiger Eye Bar. Once again the audience sang along, and once again I laughed! Thankfully I didn’t laugh as much this time around, but just hearing them sing the way they did is so hilarious to me! It’s also rare that people would sing along to my open mic set two weeks in a row! I’m grateful for that, but I’m still getting used to it! The songs in my setlist were as follows:

1. Can You Forgive Her? (Pet Shop Boys cover)
2. Go West (Pet Shop Boys cover)
3. Another Day In Paradise (Phil Collins cover)
