Archerfield Secures Another Season!
With the proposed sale of the land on which the venue sits having stalled, Archerfield Speedway has been granted a one-season reprieve and racing will continue at the storied Brisbane venue in 2022/23.
The extension of racing operations at Archerfield for another season is great news for competitors and race fans alike, with promoters John and Kathy Kelly having wasted no time in compiling an exciting schedule of events that totals 18 nights of racing between October and June.
Whilst the number of events is down on previous seasons, which is understandable given the circumstances, there are still plenty of big shows on the schedule, including the Australian Sprintcar Open (January 13 & 14) and the Australian Wingless Sprint Championship (April 29 & 30). It is hardly surprising that Sprintcars dominate the schedule and, as such, they will feature at every meeting with the exception of the yet-to-be confirmed fixture on January 28, with World of Outlaws superstar Donny Schatz hoping to return to Brisbane to kick off his tour on Boxing Night (December 26). An annual Archerfield visitor prior to the pandemic, Schatz has served up some of the most remarkable performances in the history of the track and this season the 10-times WoO champion is also hoping to visit Eastern Creek Speedway in Sydney.
Following an official practice night on September 10, the 2022/2023 Archerfield season will get underway on October 1, with Sprintcars, Midgets, Formula 500s, AMCA Nationals, Development Sprintcars and a huge Fireworks show also on the program.
Midgets feature very prominently on the schedule, with no less than 10 appearances, culminating with the annual 50-lap feature race on June 3. AMCA Nationals, Wingless Sprints, Formula 500s, Lightning Sprints, Modlites and Open Sedans are also slated for numerous appearances, while Super Sedans will feature on two occasions, the second of which will be the prestigious GP53 Graham Pascoe Memorial on May 20.
The completion of the 2022/23 season has been assured by the property owners, but the land remains for sale and there are no expectations that racing will continue beyond the season finale on June 3.
