When we feel stressed, a small part of the brain called the amygdala acts like an alarm, detecting threats and signalling the body to respond. This sets off the release of cortisol, a hormone that increases alertness and energy. After the Black Summer bushfires, native bee populations struggled when their natural nesting habitats were destroyed. To help them recover, more than 1,000 bee hotels were installed across Western Australia’s Jarrah forests, giving these vital pollinators safe places to nest and thrive again.
