New blog post 💃🕺
Ever wonder where I get my information from? Aside from my amazing powers of synthesis 😎, one source I consult is relevant psychological, neurological and biological research. That sounds fancy. I'm not a research scientist, so I also rely on expert interpretations by Elaine Aron (the pioneering researcher for the Highly Sensitive/Responsive temperament) and sometimes others. This helps me place what I read in context and understand it (since research papers can be hard to interpret).
In this post, I've shared examples of these sources, plus tips for how to find more, so you can also go directly to them, if you'd like. I'm really not just making it up! 🤓
I hope you find these useful, for your own evidence needs and/or to present to organisational leaders as evidence that supports the services I offer.

👧👦Highly Sensitive Children 🏫🚸
Highly Sensitive (Responsive) children are, like their adult counterparts, needed and valuable participants in society - in their families, friendship groups, and schools.
But, also like their adult counterparts, their temperament isn't widely understood. In fact, it's often MISunderstood, and this can be actually very harmful to a highly sensitive child.
How? For one, they can be diagnosed with a disorder they don't have - such as ADHD, Sensory Processing Disorder, or depression (although this can certainly be a component for the older child, if their circumstances lead to it). Whole treatments might be administered, beliefs created, and stigma attached. This is really difficult to detach from when the truth is finally revealed - that there's no problem, just a different temperament.
There are other harmful consequences to misunderstanding children with High Sensitivity, and positive gains from understanding them - I'll be writing about it soon on the Sensitive Thrive blog. For now, here's a helpful article from Maureen at The Highly Sensitive Child website:
