The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) is providing up to $25.3 million to NewVolt to build Victoria’s first shared fast-charging network for electric trucks. Three open-access hubs will be established across Melbourne’s west, south-east, and northern suburbs, supporting 50–100 heavy and medium electric trucks in the first phase.

The initiative aims to decarbonise one of Australia’s hardest-to-abate sectors, reduce reliance on imported diesel, and improve energy security. By lowering infrastructure barriers, ARENA hopes to accelerate the transition to electric freight nationwide. The first charging hub is expected to open in late 2026, with the remaining hubs operational by 2027, providing fleets with reliable, renewable-powered fast charging.
