Pure Wool Hand Knits.

f our yarn and pure wool yarns from the Bendigo Woollen Mills. Our farmlet, east of Bendigo in Central Victoria, Australia, is the home of Pure Wool Hand Knits. The socks are hand-knitted from the wool of crossbred Corriedale/Romney sheep. This particular wool blend, evolved over several seasons, creates a superbly warm and soft yet durable fibre - perfect for socks! Our small flock of sheep is shorn in late September each year. The fleece is then washed, scoured and carded, after which it is commercially spun. My primary focus is on retaining the natural characteristics of the wool. Each pair of socks takes up to twenty hours to hand knit, employing a technique using four needles to create a seamless and wonderfully snug-fitting sock. I began by knitting the socks myself, but increasing interest in the quality of these unique woollen socks, led me to engage the skills of several experienced knitters across country Victoria. I have now expanded my range to include long wraps, shoulder wraps and poncho wraps for winter and several "in between" season garments.
