This dining room at Barkly Street is one of our favourites from this project.

The chandelier, French doors, and white display cabinetry all came together in a way that feels warm and considered without trying too hard. The fireplace and artwork in the adjoining sitting area ties it all together.

This is what a well-planned renovation looks like when every room gets the attention it deserves.

If you are thinking about renovating in Bendigo, we would love to hear about your project. πŸ‘‰

This bathroom at Barkly Street was a full gut and rebuild. New layout, new everything from subway tiles, frameless glass shower, freestanding bath, and brushed nickel tapware throughout.

The client wanted something that felt classic but not dated. We think it landed exactly where it needed to.

Before you sign anything with a builder, make sure you get clear answers to these five questions.

We've seen too many homeowners come to us mid-project, frustrated because they didn't ask the right things upfront. A good builder won't hesitate on any of these and if they do, that tells you everything you need to know.

At AMW Builders, we believe the best projects start with honest conversations. If you're planning a renovation, extension, or new build in Bendigo, we're happy to walk you through every one of these before you commit to anything.

Save this post for when you need it, and share it with someone who's about to start a build. πŸ‘‰

Most Bendigo homeowners who come to us about an extension say the same thing: "We love where we live, we just need more room."

Moving is expensive, disruptive, and means leaving a neighbourhood you already know. For a lot of families, extending makes far more sense, financially and practically.

Here are 4 signs a home extension might be the right move for you:
1️⃣ You need more space but love where you live
2️⃣ Moving costs more than building
3️⃣ Your block has room to build out or up
4️⃣ You want to add long-term value to your home

If two or more of these sound familiar, it is worth having a conversation before you make any decisions.

Before you sign anything, it helps to know exactly what you’re agreeing to.

A clear conversation with your builder can make a big difference, especially when it comes to licensing, quote inclusions, variations, communication, and recent project references.

These questions are simple, but they can help you understand how your project will be managed before work begins.

Most homeowners underestimate how long a renovation actually takes β€” and it usually comes down to scope, materials, and approvals, not the build itself.
Here is a realistic guide:

πŸ“Œ Minor refresh: 2 to 6 weeks
πŸ“Œ Full room reno: 4 to 10 weeks
πŸ“Œ Whole home: 3 to 6+ months

Planning ahead is what keeps projects on track.

Before and after

Hargreaves Street is a good example of how even a more contained renovation can still make a meaningful difference to the way a home feels and functions.

Not every renovation needs to be a full transformation to add value. Thoughtful updates, completed with care, can help a space feel more practical, more refined, and better suited to everyday living.

It is often those smaller improvements that make a home feel more comfortable and better resolved over time.

A good renovation is not just about making a home look newer. It should make the space feel easier to live in, better connected, and more suited to how your household actually uses it every day.

That is often where the real value is. Better flow, better function, and a more comfortable home usually matter more long-term than chasing finishes alone.

If you were planning a renovation, what would matter most to you first: layout, storage, or overall feel? πŸ‘‡

Not all renovation quotes are priced the same way, and that does not automatically mean one builder is more expensive than another.

Often, the difference comes down to how much detail has been allowed for, what finishes are assumed, and how site conditions are being considered from the start. A lower quote can sometimes leave out items that only show up later.

That is why clarity matters early. The clearer the scope, selections, and expectations, the easier it is to compare quotes properly and make better decisions for your project.

What do you think confuses homeowners most when comparing renovation quotes? πŸ‘‡
