We may not mention them often, however our Newcastle team sure have been busy. Here are some photographs of Australia's largest SG Iron Gears in our workshop.

Measuring a whopping 9.8 metres wide, these large gears are seriously heavy; we're talking 80,000kg. That's roughly the weight of 40 brand new Ford Rangers.

Well done to Marc, Wensley and the entire Hofmann Engineering Newcastle team for this great achievement. We look forward to hearing you've broken your own record in the future!

Today, the 5th of June, is World Environment Day

World Environment Day reminds us that caring for the planet isn’t just some slogan. It’s a responsibility.

Across our global sites, our teams are stepping up with practical actions that protect local environments, cut waste and support long‑term sustainability.

In Peru, the crew is out cleaning surrounding areas and planting trees around the workshops. These are simple, steady actions that restore green spaces and support healthier ecosystems.

In Chile, everyone from management to workshop teams is joining a major clean‑up effort, showing what shared responsibility looks like when sustainability becomes part of everyday culture.

In Bassendean, we are going green in more ways than one. The team is wearing green, sorting recycling and cleaning up our surroundings; with directors and managers working side‑by‑side with workshop staff.

Several of our other Australian locations are doing the same, reinforcing our commitment to reducing waste and improving how we recycle across our sites.

Because sustainability isn’t a trend. It’s the foundation for a future where industry and environment can thrive together.

We believe small actions add up. Collective effort really creates momentum.

Today, our teams are proving that environmental care is something we live, not just talk about.

Last Thursday both our Bendigo and Perth locations took part in Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.

This annual event is a fun and worthwhile method to help the Cancer Council raise much needed funds that go towards vital cancer research, support services, prevention program and advocacy.

Both locations had a great turnout, with plenty of hungry and happy employees donating. We’ve been informed there was some friendly rivalry among the apprentices in Bendigo to bake the best, and meanwhile Perth had a great mix of savoury and sweet creations.

We took part in honour of the many people impacted by Cancer; employees, suppliers, employee families and customers. Our thoughts go out to every family affected by Cancer.

Throwback Thursday! Here’s a fantastic old photo of the front of our Bassendean property from 1971.

Notice the six-digit telephone number on the sign; a remnant of a simpler time before 10-digit phone numbers, the Internet and all of the other technology advancements of the last 55 years.

This was the sole Hofmann Engineering building back then, and no doubt felt impressive at the time to our founders. Did they ever wonder if they would need more space for the business?

Now, this same address is the entrance to the global headquarters of Hofmann Engineering, featuring over 13 hectares of workshops, offices and storage.
