June is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month, and this week is Men's Health Week in Australia. So let's talk about something that doesn't get nearly enough airtime.
Fertility treatment is mostly physically done to women. But it's emotionally happening to both of you.
Research consistently shows male partners also experience anxiety, grief, and helplessness during fertility treatment — yet most support structures, clinic appointments, and online communities are centred on the female experience. Men are often expected to be the support person, while quietly carrying their own loss, fear, and uncertainty.
If you're that man right now, here's what actually helps:
Name it. "I'm struggling too" is not weakness — it's honesty. It is ok to seek support, you don’t have to be the strong one all the time. Sometimes your hurt can validate hers.
You don't have to perform strength through this. Showing up and falling apart are not opposites. Please know that you too have access to counselling support at Genea if you are having treatment with us.
Save this if it resonates. Share it with someone who needs it.

This Men's Health Week, the national message is simple: check in early, take your health seriously.
Across Australia, men are less likely to see a GP and more likely to wait until things get worse, leading to more complex issues, longer recovery, and unnecessary stress for them and the people who love them.
The same pattern shows up in fertility. In around 1 in 3 cases of infertility, a male factor is involved, yet men are often the last to be assessed.
A male fertility assessment is more than a fertility test. S***m health can be an early signal of hormonal, cardiovascular and metabolic wellbeing too, making it a meaningful health check-in well beyond the question of starting a family.
If you or your partner have been thinking about it, now is a good time to take that step. Bulk-billed fertility assessments are available at Genea.
