Some recipes carry a little more history than others.

When I was 24 years old, my father, Dennis Gowing, bought Melbourne's historic Grace Darling Hotel. I became its licensee, never imagining I'd be caring for a building recognised as the birthplace of the Collingwood Football Club.

Those years shaped my life, my career and my love of hospitality. Along the way, our 'hood celebrated a Collingwood premiership, endured the heartbreak of losing Dad to cancer, and worked alongside an extraordinary team to restore one of Melbourne's great pubs.

As I was making these homemade Beef & Black Betty Bam Pie Maker Pies, it reminded me of those years, so I thought I'd share a little of that story with you.
