We're taking a look back at Adelaide Festival by the decades, as we countdown until another spectacular program in 2027.
Today, we're taking you back to the '60s, where the festival was born.
The 1960s laid the foundations for Adelaide Festival as we know it today. From the inaugural Adelaide Writers' Week and Dave Brubeck's legendary jazz performances to Dame Judith Anderson, the London Symphony Orchestra and groundbreaking international theatre, the decade established Adelaide as a cultural destination and set the stage for 65 years of artistic excellence.

On the opening weekend of the festival, we were treated to the "formidable" reimagining of Chekhovโs final play, The Cherry Orchard.
"The production illuminates the lasting ache found in the heart of Chekhovโs work, and while his Cherry Orchard is built of glass and steel rather than trees, its roots run deep." โ HiFiWay
Written and Directed by Simon Stone
After the original play by Anton Chekhov
Produced by LG Arts Center
