As football fans flock to the free FIFA Fan Festival in Adelaide's Festival Plaza tonight to watch the Matilda's take on Denmark in the FIFA Women's World Cup find out what it's like to work behind the scenes for SA Tourism on one of the world's biggest sporting events.
Alice McKeough, Event Coordinator Special Projects, Events South Australia at the South Australian Tourism Commission said it has been an incredible opportunity to be able to work on the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, a world-class event that is truly making history.
“With my focus on activating ‘The Last Mile’ (aka Manton Street) on gamedays, I’ve really loved being able to help make the journey to the stadium a memorable experience for both local and visiting fans. Some highlights would have to be the Chinese Lion dancers who performed ahead of both China matches, as well as the Brazilian and Panamanian dancers and drummers – they were all incredibly talented, drew a huge crowd, and really made it feel like a World Cup and unlike anything I’ve had the chance to work on before.”
“The atmosphere has been amazing and there has been high energy outside the stadium for every one of the matches, as passionate football fans have gathered to cheer on their team.
“As a World Cup tournament, it’s brought cultures and communities together and it’s been so good to see everyone really just embrace having this event right here in Adelaide/Tarntanya.
