💙 Grief has no timeline.
When someone we love dies, we may experience a range of emotions - sadness, anger, anxiety, disbelief, relief, or even confusion. 🕊️ Grief is a personal journey, and everyone experiences it differently.
For older people, grief can be especially complex, often accompanied by other life changes such as loss of independence, health challenges, or living alone.
If you or someone you care about is grieving, know that support is available. Learn more about grief, loss, and ways to support yourself or others through difficult times. 🌱

CarerHelp Service Update and Closure Notice
We regret to advise that CarerHelp has not been refunded and will be ceasing operation on the 6 July 2026.
Since its launch in October 2019, CarerHelp has supported over 120,000 users and many more through its printed resources. We are proud of the resources developed and the impact they have had in supporting families in living with and supporting loved ones through palliative and end-of-life care.
Led by St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne in partnership with Flinders University, we sincerely thank our partners, Reference Group members, contributors, especially carers, and the Australian Government for funding the program from 2017 to 2026. Your commitment and trust have been deeply valued and have made a lasting impact.
The CarerHelp website will remain available until 6 July 2026. Resources can be ordered or downloaded for ongoing use until this date.

💜 “Palliative and end of life care will always be complex, emotional, and deeply individual. No set of numbers will ever capture its full richness.” 📊
Amy Hutchison explores how quality indicators can help health and aged care services assess and improve palliative care for older people. Drawing on a recent literature review📋, it highlights a wide range of indicators related to organisational practices, clinical care, advance care planning, and individuals’ experiences of care. While many indicators require further refinement, they can help services identify gaps, improve practice, and support compassionate, person-centred end-of-life care. 🤝
