Point A
11/06/2021
Hey everyone, TJ here.
It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that Point A will come to an end on June 30, just shy of a 9-year run.
There's a lot to the story (and things have been too quiet on this page for a while now so there's some catching up to do). The short is we've been working hard with our heads down since the pandemic hit - with Rebecca Castaldini jumping on board during the lockdown. Together we managed to renovate and pivot to survive while supporting all the communities connected to the space. We've managed to run at-cost since then (but working for free alongside our other jobs).
No matter, there's not much we can do when the landlord terminates the lease to put up apartments - and wants our little community space for his office..
We are pretty gutted, and the news is still sinking in.
We turn our attention now to planning some farewell events over the next month. In particular, keep the 25th-28th free. We also have to plan the moving-out/selling-off process - so there's a lot to do. If you'd like to pitch in on either front or just share some ideas, please reach out.
You should also email or message if you want to be sure to find out about all the coming events and news. Or you could turn on notifications for page posts / set as a favourite.
The communities and artists currently active in the space have been on the hunt for where to take their ideas and the collective next - and it seems at this point that everyone will be going their separate ways into their own spaces and projects. however, if you know anyone that owns a warehouse... we're still hopeful something could spring out of the ashes. Maybe not straight away, but in time.
The space has been codenamed ViewPoint since Bec jumped on board with our lockdown renovations. That saw us connect in more of the arts and performance areas with a stage, mirrors, and artist studios. But the brand and new space were never fully launched due to troubles getting the finishing touches done and the stability we needed with the ongoing uncertainty around the property and negotiations with the landlord.
For these last few weeks the remaining roster will keep running their sessions;
Dragon Mill
Adelaide Acrobalance brendo
and there's plenty of studio time available to book.
More to come. Lots of love.
We will all find ways to Keep it the Moves.
