I was asked over the weekend where our tint comes from. Well, I’ve six different wholesalers I buy from regularly and all of them sell film from the United States or, to a much lesser degree, Europe. China are also an up and coming suppliers, in fact every week I get at least two emails from random Chinese companies offering me their product. However, until these companies have the same sort of proven manufacturing quality, reliability, ease of use and supply/support structures in place that the big America suppliers have we can’t, in all good conscience, sell the Chinese product.

The two biggest film manufacturers we deal with are Llumar and Madico. Llumar films have been made by Eastman Performance Films (yes, that Eastman) for over 60 years and are recognised as the world’s leading manufacturer and marketer of high performance window film. Madico has been producing window film since 1935 and has a record of innovation going back all the way to their first days. To top all of that off our primary wholesaler, Martin Energy Products, has been in business in Australia for 50 years. The films we use all come with manufacturer’s warranties and we’re extremely confident that they’ll be honouring those warranties for a long, long time to come.

It's the old adage – you get what you pay for. If you get a ridiculously cheap quote to tint your windows ask where their film comes from and what sort of warranty it has. Cheap film means a bad result.

This is an interesting little job we did this week. The glass you're looking at here is totally flat and our customer asked us to make it look like old leadlight. The effect was created by installing translucent pale pink film from Orafol and overlaying it it with Solyx "Clear Ripple" film. One of the things that happens regularly here in our showroom is potential customers will talk about their worries that the tint will distort the view out their windows. I explain that putting tint on your windows is like putting sunglasses on your home, office or car. There is no distortion, and like sunglasses you'll very quickly not notice it. We've very recently completed tinting a charity store here in Adelaide and the tinter was smart enough to grab a photo half way through the tinting process. Because of the size of the windows we had to use two pieces of film for each pane, joining them half way across. As you can see, no distortion. Tinting gives you increased privacy and will reduce the amount of heat coming into your home in summer.
