The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), often known as the Hare Krishna movement, was founded by His Divine Grace A. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda in New York City in 1966 to give the world the impetus and opportunity to cultivate pure love of God, based on the tenets of Gaudiya-Vaisnavism, a religious sect in the line of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu.
