⚠️ Taxi Scam Alert – Vienna Hauptbahnhof
We regret having to issue this WARNING again, but arrivals at Vienna Hauptbahnhof continue to report problems.
Most recent case: 21 JAN 26.
A guest was approached with an inflated “flat rate” offer. They refused — and immediately received perfectly normal, metered service from the next driver in line.
What you MUST know
Offering flat rates for inner‑city rides at curbside or taxi stands is UNLAWFUL in Vienna.
Always insist on the taximeter. If the driver refuses, simply step away and take the next taxi.
Uber/Bolt: Get your quote beforehand or upon arrival.
Only transfers that cross city limits (including airport rides) or pre‑booked services may legally use pre‑arranged rates.
Vienna is safe and well‑regulated — but this specific scam persists. A firm “No; meter only” protects you every time.
