Intergenerational poverty means that children often grow up facing the same challenges their parents had: lack of access to education, precarious living conditions, social exclusion, and limited opportunities for the future.

For many families, it is difficult to break this cycle on their own. Children experience insecurity from an early age, which puts them at a disadvantage when it comes to school, health, and social participation.

The consequences extend far beyond their current situation:
Poverty affects opportunities, self-confidence, and perspectives—often spanning many years and generations.

That is why early support and real perspectives for the future are needed for children and families: At CONCORDIA, we create this space in our day centres.

After all, major problems like intergenerational poverty can only be solved by working together.

Lena is 16 years old and has been part of the CONCORDIA family in Kosovo since day one. During a challenging school period, she discovered something at the center that changed everything: music. 🎶

With her flute, she found confidence, courage, and a way to express herself. Today, she performs on stage, gets involved, and grows with each new experience. ✨

That's what our day centers are for: helping children like Lena discover who they are. 💚

"It was an incredible experience and I made many new friendships." This is how Ronja from Klosterneuburg describes her Voluntary Social Year with CONCORDIA in Romania.

For six months, she supported at Casa Iuda – at events, in the house and garden, in youth group care, and in daily interactions with people whose life stories deeply moved her. Between laughter, new experiences, and intense encounters, Ronja realized the essence of voluntary engagement: being there, listening, helping – and growing herself.
