With a genuine blend of musical influences, unconventional original compositions and energetic live performances, the Austrian trio KO·AX explores the boundaries of Contemporary Jazz. The band's name derives from a term originating in geometry and describes a three- dimensional element that has a common axis of reference. This metaphor becomes the premise in the music of Lukas Leitner (piano, synt
hesizer), Walter Singer (double bass) and Lukas Laimer (drums): Interaction takes center stage, individual insertions are coaxially united. Starting from reduced compositions, the three musicians fuse Jazz and Improvisation with borrowings from Rock, Electronic Music, New Music, etc. to create a rousing mixture that knows how to unfold its effect – especially live. Minimal Music elements encounter synthesizer pads, twelve-tone rows converge with energetic grooves and catchy melodies meet the fragile sound world of Contemporary Jazz. After numerous concerts with their debut album "Loose Frames" (e.g. at Treibhaus Innsbruck, Urban Bloom Festival Vienna, OK Deck Linz), the band started to introduce their new program "immersion" (e.g. at Osterfestival Tirol, Alte Schmiede Vienna) and spent some time in the studio. KO·AX' new album is out now on the Viennese label Listen Closely.
„KO·AX paves its own way and artfully transfers the language of Contemporary Jazz into a stylistically expanded form. [... ] KO·AX are masters of the soft, fragile and melodic tone as well as the intensely pulsating and constantly driving forward. The tunes of the Viennese three-piece unfold that certain something you get stuck on, they develop their very own dynamics and form themselves into wide musical arcs, which create an immense amount of mood and atmosphere and always come up with surprising twists and turns“ (Michael Ternai, Music Information Center Austria).
„A play with ostinati and their shifts that allow forms to unfold in a creative way, generating simplicity, transparency and conciseness through a plain but by no means banal rhythmic and harmonic vocabulary“ (Alejandro Del Valle-Lattanzio, Alte Schmiede). Lukas Leitner – Piano, Synthesizer
