School has resumed and it’s officially Week 2 for William as a 1st-Grader❗️
And wow, this summer —> jam packed with fun, travel, friends and family visits 🇮🇹 🇵🇹 🇫🇷 🇸🇪.
I‘m anxious to settle back into quiet windows of creativity in my studio, as well as out and about on walks in Vienna.
But even so, doing this simple thing w/ Will -turning an IKEA paper shade into a hot air balloon for Marty of Madagascar- is a reminder that whimsy and imagination can be sparked anywhere.
I love being mom to my 6 year old!!

This is ‘Diamond Head’, the 5th photo in my latest series. I’m doing a project on the theme of emotional abandonment using my own life experiences. Diamond Head depicts a chapter that ppl may have considered to be paradise, at least from the outside looking in. I was living on the beach in Hawaii, intending to go the distance with my then partner.

This is a new photograph in my Abandonment series of images. It’s called ‘Just Don’t Make Me Cry’.
Setting up, photographing and editing these pics is taking a fair amt of time but I’m enjoying the process a LOT. I’m also contemplating what a ‘stand on its own photo’ versus a ‘part of a body of work photo’ encompasses. Hmmm not totally unlike considering ppl as individuals vs being members of groups.

WHY DO I LIKE PHOTOgraphing botanicals?

Plants, flowers, trees - things that grow in the wild or in a garden - are some of my favorite subjects to work with.

Botanicals are alive & dynamic. They come and go with the seasons which keeps things interesting and makes me feel more connected to life here on this spinning sphere.

Once I started photographing flowers I developed more awareness of natural rhythms such as the amount of sunlight at the solstices and in between.

Another thing that I enjoy about shooting botanicals is that I can take my time and obsess over the smallest details if I want to. It’s alignment with my pace.

With experience and plenty of trial + error we learn these things about ourselves… Pretty gratifying.
