Fourth Annual Dolma Festival 18/07/2014

On Wednesday, July 16, Armenia's 4th Annual "Uduli" Dolma Festival took place within the Sardarapat memorial complex, wherein over 70 types of the traditional food staple were available for guests to sample, as a jury consisting of the Head of Javakhk Compatriot Union` Shirak Torosyan and Honored Artist of the Republic of Armenia` Leyla Saribekyan, among multiple others, were given the task to decide this year's best flavor, appearance, and idea. Organized by the "Armenian Cookery Traditions Development and Protection" NGO, the festival was also partially funded by EDMC. The competition for the longest dolma, as well as that for the fastest to eat it all, took place as onlookers cheered and enjoyed their tasty fares, each prepared with original recipes. Definitely a great evening for dolma overs and guests alike!

A wonderful day, full of sunshine and good spirit, greeted the young and the old, locals and foreigners, on Saturday June 28, 2014. The Taraz Fest - Traditional Costumes of Armenia festival took place in Old Arpeni, where arts and crafts were put on display by vendors from the region as a means of promoting the beautiful ancient world of Armenia, particularly its mesmerizing traditional dress. Delicious food accompanied this lavish presentation alongside lively music, a bounce house for kids, authentic wagon rides, as well as a local photographer, Photo Atelier Marashlyan Retro, to capture the beauty of the moment through offering those interested with photographs while in traditional Armenian attire.

Did you know? A woman wore a cloth belt with her and her husband's initials, as well as their wedding date embroidered on, helping society distinguish the wives from the available girls in Gyumri (former Alexandrapol).
