Agency Coordinating Body for Afghan Relief and Development (ACBAR) is a national, independent, non-government organisation (#NGO) that provides a platform for information-sharing and networking for national and international NGOs in #Afghanistan. ACBAR was created in Peshawar, Pakistan, in August 1988 in response to the demand from NGOs working with Afghan refugees in Pakistan and across the border in Afghanistan to coordinate assistance and delivery of services more efficiently. We are present in Kabul, Jalalabad, Mazar-e-Sherif, Herat, Kandahar and Kunduz.
****************** Our main activities *********************
*** Information and Communications: ACBAR is committed to promoting dialogue, consultation and coordination between NGOs and their stakeholders. We hold two monthly coordination meetings, Afghanistan Development Forum (ADF) and the Afghanistan Humanitarian Forum (AHF) that allow respectively government bodies and UNOCHA to consult and discuss with NGO members on key policies, practices and context development. ACBAR provides key open access information, such as hundreds of reports, field researches, political analysis, laws and legal amendments etc. pertaining to Afghanistan, to support its members and stakeholders in their data collection and decision making
*** Advocacy: ACBAR plays a leading role in defending the interests of its member NGOs with the government, the international community, and any other relevant party. ACBAR actively promotes the role and principles of NGOs to improve access and aid delivery to the beneficiaries and strongly advocates for the protection of aid workers and civilians.
*** Capacity Building: ACBAR provides trainings to NGO partners and wider civil society in all the main provincial cities in Afghanistan, to strengthen organizational management, improve aid delivery and support the implementation of international principles and standards. ACBAR also runs the Twinning Program, that pairs Afghan NGOs with International NGOs to raise the capacity of national organizations.
