From Daily Challenges to Dignified Care at Spin Jomat Centre!
At Spin Jomat Health Centre, access to safe water, sanitation and suitable facilities has made a meaningful difference for health workers, patients and families.
Through the DAWAM project, implemented by AWEC, health workers and community members were involved in identifying priorities and shaping improvements, including safe drinking water, gender segregated sanitation facilities, handwashing points, a shaded waiting area and an improved delivery room.
For health workers, these improvements have changed everyday working conditions. As Abdul Wajed, a CHS staff member at Spin Jomat Health Centre, explained:
“One of the hardest things was that we had to travel by motorcycle to the Chaghari area, about two kilometres from the health facility, when we needed to use a toilet.”
These WASH improvements complement the health and nutrition services supported by Mihan (MHCO) Organisation. Mihan is not a DAWAM partner, but a peer organisation supporting the same health facility. This collaboration helps ensure that efforts are complementary, avoid duplication, and make the best use of available resources.
Together, these complementary efforts are helping create a cleaner, safer and more dignified environment for people seeking care and those providing it, while supporting better access to essential health and nutrition services for women, children and families.
This progress has been made possible through the support of FCDO, World Vision and ActionAid, working together with communities and local health actors to strengthen essential services and improve the experience of healthcare.
