صد سال پیش ساز ترمین توسط لیون ترمین (لیو سرگیوویچ ترمین) فزیکدان روس اختراع شد. او در یک پروژه تحقیقاتی شوروی بروی حسگرهای دورشناس کار میکرد که موفق به شناخت و ساخت این پدیده عجیب شد. در این ساز یک دست وظیفه کنترل بلندی صدا را دارد و دست دیگر باید نت ها را مشخص کند. این ساز توسط دو آنتن فلزی که حسگرهای آن است کار میکند. میزان دوری و نزدیکی دست به آنتن باعث تولید صدایی مشابه به ویولن می شود. این صدای عجیب بیشتر در موسیقی فلم استفاده شده که از آن جمله میتوان به فلم "ادنا" محصول شوروی 1931 اشاره کرد. این موسیقی توسط دیمیتری شوستاکویچ آهنگساز بزرگ روس ساخته شد
