This guy took going strong to the next level.

In February 14, 1977 US Navy Commander John Collins was at the Oahu Perimeter Relay award ceremony with some fellow athletes. They were arguing about who were the fittest athletes, cyclists, runners, or swimmers.
The solution was obvious, just stick together 3 existing long distance races in Hawaii back to back and see who finished first. The winner would be called an "Ironman".
42 years later, long distance races are the rage and thousands of people join the flock every year.
It's an amazing story with lots of people who truly pushed the boundaries of what is humanly possible.
This photo is from the first race. 12 people just figuring it out. I love that spirit, it's the reason why I do what I do. It's not about what others think or how many people see it. It's about being honest to yourself and figure out how far you can really push.
It also makes you admire those who can do it to almost superhuman levels, lots of respect.
