Comment “Aramco” and we’ll send you the deep dive.

87 years ago this month, the first shipment of Saudi oil left the kingdom.

At the time, almost nobody believed this stretch of desert would become one of the most important places on earth. The British controlled much of the region’s oil, American companies were racing for influence, and Saudi Arabia was a newly unified state with little infrastructure, little money, and enormous uncertainty.

Then a handful of geologists crossed the Gulf from Bahrain and started drilling in the Saudi desert.

What followed would reshape global power, finance, geopolitics, and the modern Middle East forever.

But this story isn’t really about oil.

It’s about how a country went from leasing out its resources to foreign companies, to slowly reclaiming ownership of one of the most valuable assets in human history.

It’s the story of Aramco. And the story most people think they know is only a fraction of what actually happened.
