Markets and Seeds Access Project-MASAP

nd will focus on rolling out the project implementation in the four initial districts of Tsholotsho and Mudzi in Zimbabwe and Sioma and Chipata in Zambia. MASAP aims to improve the climate resilience and food security of smallholder households (especially women and youth) through a Market Systems Development (MSD) approach, strengthening climate resilient seed and commodity markets in Zambia and Zimbabwe. The project teams in Zambia and Zimbabwe work closely with the local governments and private sector (SMEs, processors, community-owned enterprises, research institutes) supporting the establishment of an inclusive seed and commodity sector of improved open and self-pollinated varieties of small grains (sorghum and millets) and legumes (cowpeas and groundnuts). Bottlenecks in the enabling policy environment are addressed through support to the seed institutions and ministries in the respective countries. Through grant funds and service provision contracts, MASAP facilitates market systems interventions to target the bottlenecks and challenges for farmers to access seeds and seize the potential of commodity and food markets. MASAP is promoting innovative, Agro-ecologically sensitive practices that ensure mitigation and adaptation to climate change by the smallholder farming households.
