Teacher Arrested Over K90,000 Recruitment Bribery Allegation
By Arnold Tutu
The Anti-Corruption Commission -ACC- has arrested a secondary school teacher in Lusaka in connection with an alleged corruption case involving K90,000 linked to teacher recruitment under the Ministry of Education.
In a statement to ZNBC news, ACC Acting Head of Corporate Communications, CHILUFYA CHISANGA, said Mr. CHARLES MUBITA, aged 30, of Kamwala South, has been charged with one count of corrupt practices by a public officer under the Anti-Corruption Act.
Mr. MUBITA, a teacher at Robert Dean Secondary School, is alleged to have solicited K90,000 from a complainant between 1 and 15 June 2026, with the promise of securing a job for the complainant’s sister within the Ministry of Education.
Ms. CHISANGA said investigations show that K50,000 was initially paid, followed by a demand for an additional K40,000.
She said acting on information received on June 12, 2026, the ACC conducted an operation in which the suspect allegedly received K5,000 as part payment of the outstanding amount, leading to his arrest.
Ms. CHISANGA said Mr. MUBITA has been released on police bond and is expected to appear in court soon.
She has warned members of the public against paying bribes for employment opportunities, and cautioned against individuals who demand money under the guise of facilitating recruitment.
