ZAMBATT XII Holds Thanksgiving Service Ahead of CAR Deployment

The Twelfth Zambian Battalion (ZAMBATT XII) of peacekeepers undergoing pre-deployment training, yesterday, held a Thanksgiving Church Service at Kenneth Kaunda Peace Training Centre (KKPTC)

Held under the theme: “Prepared for Service, Equipped for Purpose”, the service marked the Battalion’s final spiritual preparation ahead of deployment to the Central African Republic under the auspices of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

Delivering the homily from Joshua 1:6-9, Brigadier General Shadreck Mwale urged the troops to remain courageous as they prepare for mission duty.

And speaking on behalf of Commander Zambia Army, Lieutenant General Geoffrey Choongo Zyeele, Brigadier General Telenkako Banda called on the troops to uphold the standards set by previous Battalions once in the mission area.

“Let your decisions be guided by the principles of integrity, impartiality, respect for human rights, and adherence to international law,” Lt Gen Zyeele said.

Lt Gen Zyeele also emphasised discipline and professionalism as the troops serve as flag bearers for Zambia in the mission area.

Meanwhile, Army Ladies Association of Zambia (ALAZ) donated clothes to the vulnerable families in that country.

Speaking prior to handing over seven bales of clothing for the less privileged in the Central African Republic (CAR), ALAZ Patron, Mrs Zyeele encouraged the troops to keep God at the centre of their service.

Mrs Gina Zyeele reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to supporting contingents through humanitarian work.

“Supporting humanitarian efforts allows us to play a meaningful role in the noble work you undertake.

To show our support today, we are donating seven bales of clothing to be distributed to the less privileged in the Central African Republic,” Mrs Zyeele said.

Mrs Zyeele added that the association remains an anchor of moral and emotional support for military families during deployment periods.

“As military spouses, we understand that service to humanity often requires sacrifice. We know the long hours, the demanding schedules, and the periods of separation that come with military duty.

Our husbands have chosen a calling that goes beyond personal interests, a calling to protect lives, promote peace, and bring hope where conflict and suffering exist,” Mrs Zyeele said.
