The Bank of Zambia has approved the transfer of Standard Chartered Zambia's Wealth & Retail Banking business to FNB Zambia. As someone who has used both banks, I have mixed feelings.

My experience with Standard Chartered has been exceptional. Opening an account was completely free through the SC Mobile app, their digital banking is seamless, customer support is available around the clock, and I've never felt burdened by unnecessary charges. Everything is designed to save customers time and make banking simple.

My experience with FNB Zambia has been different. When I opened my account, I paid nearly K400 in account opening costs, monthly charges have felt high, and many services still require visiting a branch and waiting in long queues. Customer service hours also end around 5 PM, which can be inconvenient for people who need assistance after work.

With thousands of Standard Chartered customers now expected to join FNB, I sincerely hope FNB takes this opportunity to learn from what Standard Chartered has done so well. Modern banking should be digital, convenient, affordable, and customer-centered.

Congratulations to Standard Chartered Zambia for setting a high standard in customer experience. And to FNB Zambia: welcome your new customers by improving the banking experience, reducing unnecessary barriers, and making convenience a priority.

This is based on my personal experience, and I hope this transition results in better banking services for everyone in Zambia.
