PROFFESSIONAL PRACTICE
Three ethical principles in nursing are
1.Beneficence
Nurses should act to promote their patients' well-being and interests. This includes actions that improve health outcomes and enhance the patient's overall welfare.
2.Justice
Nurses should act impartially and without favoritism. This means being impartial about a patient's ethnicity, religion, age, economic status, or sexual orientation.
3.Autonomy
Patients have the right to make their own healthcare decisions, including the right to refuse treatment.

Hypertension (high blood pressure) is a chronic condition where the force of blood against the artery walls is consistently too high.
🔹 Definition
Normal BP: 120/80 mmHg
Hypertension: ≥140/90 mmHg (commonly used clinical threshold)
🔹 Types
Primary (Essential) Hypertension
No specific cause
Most common
Secondary Hypertension
Caused by conditions like kidney disease, hormonal disorders
🔹 Causes / Risk Factors
High salt intake
Obesity
Stress
Smoking & alcohol
Sedentary lifestyle
Family history
Aging
🔹 Signs & Symptoms
⚠️ Often called a “silent killer” because many people have no symptoms
When present:
Headache
Dizziness
Blurred vision
Nosebleeds
Palpitations
🔹 Pathophysiology (Simple Explanation)
Blood vessels become narrow or stiff
Heart pumps harder
Pressure in arteries increases
🔹 Complications
If uncontrolled, it can lead to:
Stroke
Myocardial Infarction
Chronic Kidney Disease
Heart failure
Vision loss
🔹 Diagnosis
Repeated BP measurements
Urine & blood tests
ECG (to check heart)
🔹 Management
1. Lifestyle Modifications
Reduce salt intake
Exercise regularly
Maintain healthy weight
Stop smoking
Reduce alcohol
Manage stress
2. Medications
(Common classes)
Diuretics
ACE inhibitors
Calcium channel blockers
Beta-blockers
🔹 Nursing Management
Monitor BP regularly
Educate patient on lifestyle changes
Ensure medication compliance
Observe for complications
Encourage follow-up visits
🔹 Prevention
Healthy diet (low salt, low fat)
Regular physical activity
Routine BP checks
✅ Key Point:
Hypertension may not show symptoms, but it can silently damage vital organs—early detection and control are very.

KAPOSIS SARCOMA
Kaposi's Sarcoma is a cancer caused by human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8/KSHV), primarily affecting blood vessels, lymphatic vessels, or mucosal tissues. It manifests as skin lesions but can involve internal organs.
# # # **Types of KS**
1. **Classic KS**:
- Occurs in older men of Mediterranean, Eastern European, or Middle Eastern descent.
- Slow-growing skin lesions on legs/feet.

2. **Endemic (African) KS**:
- Found in sub-Saharan Africa, unrelated to HIV.
- Aggressive forms may affect lymph nodes or bones.

3. **Iatrogenic (Immunosuppression-related) KS**:
- Linked to organ transplants or long-term immunosuppressive therapy.

4. **Epidemic (AIDS-associated) KS**:
- Most common type, associated with advanced HIV/AIDS.
- Often widespread, involving skin, lymph nodes, and organs.

# # # **Symptoms**
- **Skin**: Purple/red/brown flat or raised patches/nodules (commonly on legs, face, or ge****ls).
- **Mucosal**: Lesions in mouth, nose, or throat.
- **Internal Organ Involvement**:
- Lungs: Cough, shortness of breath, bloody sputum.
- GI Tract: Abdominal pain, bleeding, obstruction.
- Lymph Nodes: Swelling (lymphedema).

# # # **Diagnosis**
1. **Biopsy**: Confirms spindle-shaped tumor cells and HHV-8 presence.
2. **Imaging**: CT/MRI to assess internal involvement.
3. **Endoscopy**: For suspected GI lesions.
4. **HIV Testing**: Critical to identify epidemic KS.

# # # **Treatment**
Depends on type, extent, and immune status:
1. **HIV-associated KS**:
- Antiretroviral therapy (ART) to restore immunity (often reduces lesions).
- Chemotherapy (e.g., liposomal doxorubicin) for advanced cases.
2. **Localized Skin Lesions**:
- Radiation, cryotherapy, or surgical excision.
3. **Iatrogenic KS**:
- Reduce immunosuppressive drugs if possible.
4. **Immunotherapy/Other**:
- Interferon-alpha, paclitaxel, or clinical trials (e.g., VEGF inhibitors).
