💔 The Disappearance of Naledi Khumalo.

🛫 What Happened?
Naledi flew back to Johannesburg after attending her grandmother’s funeral in Durban.Surveillance footage showed her taking a ride hailing service from OR Tambo International Airport to Zoo Lake Park in Johannesburg shortly after arriving.
There, she met a man she had connected with online. After getting out of the vehicle, she disappeared.

🔍 Investigation.
Police traced digital evidence, phone records, and surveillance footage.The investigation led to Sipho Dlamini, a man living in Sandton. Evidence linked him to Naledi’s disappearance and death, including cell phone data, burned items, and remains found in the Magaliesberg mountains.

🚨 Arrest and Conviction.
Sipho was arrested in June 2019. Prosecutors stated he kidnapped and murdered Naledi, then attempted to destroy evidence.
In October 2020, Sipho Dlamini pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and desecration of a human body. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole under South African law.

Naledi’s case shocked South Africa, highlighting the dangers of online connections and the vulnerability of young women. It became part of the broader national conversation about gender based violence (GBV) and the urgent need for stronger protections.Her family established a scholarship fund in her name at the University of Pretoria, ensuring her memory lives on through the education of other young women.
