Joey van Aarde has been deeply passionate about preserving the precious history of Onrus River since her very first holiday here in 1991. She is dedicated to uncovering, documenting, and sharing the rich heritage of our little hamlet with all who take an interest.

In 2019, she founded the Onrus(t) River History Group / Onrus(t)rivier Geskiedenisgroep on Facebook, which has grown to 2,552 members across 15 countries. Through her commitment and enthusiasm, Joey has inspired both past and present residents to share their stories, photographs, and treasured memories — strengthening our collective understanding of Onrus’s unique past.
