Ladies and gentlemen, meet what may be the world’s only upside-down traffic light. 🚦☘️
At the corner of Tompkins Street and Milton Avenue in Syracuse, New York, the signal is arranged with green on top and red on the bottom—the exact opposite of a normal traffic light.
It stands in the city’s Tipperary Hill neighborhood, an area with deep Irish roots. In the 1920s, local sons and grandsons of Irish immigrants strongly disliked seeing the British-associated red light placed above the Irish green. They repeatedly threw stones at the signal and smashed the bulbs, forcing the city to keep replacing them. 😂
Finally, in 1928, Syracuse agreed to reverse the colors, placing green above red. Nearly a century later, the unusual traffic light is still there and can be seen by anyone visiting the area.
For scale: male, 41, size 13 shoes—and one upside-down traffic light. 🚦
**EDIT:** I’m thrilled by all the reactions and comments. It has been amazing reading everyone’s stories and experiences! 🙌

I recently traveled out of town and discovered that I had forgotten to pack a toothbrush. The nearest drugstore had every type imaginable—standard brushes, multiple bristle strengths, electric models, folding travel brushes, and even these unusual “large-head” toothbrushes. 🪥🤔
I’ve brushed my teeth every day for many years, so I thought I had seen just about every toothbrush design available. Apparently not, because I had never come across one with a head this enormous.
What exactly is the purpose? Is it supposed to clean more teeth at once and shorten brushing time? Or did “Big Toothpaste” invent it so people would feel obligated to cover the entire thing with toothpaste? 😂
I didn’t buy it. Since I only needed something for one night, I picked up a cheap soft-bristled brush instead. I did, however, take a photo for evidence.
The store had an impressive selection of toothbrushes—but unfortunately, no bananas for scale. 🍌

This is the HMCS Haida, currently docked in Hamilton, Ontario, as a museum ship. ⚓️
Of the 27 Tribal-class destroyers built, it is the only remaining example of its class.
Thirteen were destroyed in combat, and the other thirteen were scrapped after the wars. 🚢

I live pretty close to the Delaware River, so I went down to watch the SS United States go by. 🚢
In 1952, it set the record for the fastest ocean liner to cross the Atlantic in either direction, and that record still stands at the time of this post.
The SS United States is 990 feet long, or 302 meters, and stands about 175 feet tall, or 53 meters. It ran from 1952 to 1969, and in 1996 it was towed to Philadelphia, where it sat until today.
Now it’s on its way to the Gulf of Mexico, where it will be sunk and become the world’s largest artificial reef.
I waved at it as it went by.
M36, size 11 shoe. Pretty sure the helicopter pilot in the third photo was eating a banana. 🍌
Edit: I’m 36, not 34, and it should be “sunk,” not “sank.”
