Youth Day: Building hope, belonging and safer futures ๐ŸŒฑ
As South Africa commemorates Youth Day, we remember the courage and sacrifice of the young people of 1976 who stood up for freedom, dignity and equal access to education. Fifty years later, the theme of Youth Day 2026, โ€œRESET@50 โ€“ The Future Callsโ€, invites us not only to reflect on the past, but to consider the future we are creating for the next generation.

While significant progress has been made, many young people continue to face complex challenges. High levels of unemployment, school dropout, substance dependency, violence, abuse and poverty impact the lives of millions of children and youth across our country. These realities affect not only individuals, but families, communities and future generations.

Yet Youth Day is not a day of despair. It is a day of possibility.

At Badisa, we believe that every young person deserves the opportunity to grow up in an environment where they feel safe, valued and supported. We believe that lasting change happens when emotionally resilient people are nurtured within caring communities where dignity, belonging and hope can flourish.

This belief guides our work every day.

Through a network of professional social services across the Western and Northern Cape, Badisa supports children, youth and families facing vulnerability, trauma, neglect, abuse, poverty and other social challenges. Our services include child protection, prevention and early intervention programmes, family support, alternative care, early childhood development initiatives, substance dependency services and programmes that help young people prepare for independent living.

Behind every service is a collective effort. Professional staff, volunteers, congregations, governing boards, donors, partners and community members work together to create safer spaces where children and young people can thrive. Through awareness, involvement, empowerment and care, we help strengthen resilience, support families and encourage communities to become active participants in building healthier futures.

For us, hope is not an abstract concept.

๐Ÿ’šHope is a child who feels safe and protected.
๐Ÿ’šHope is a family receiving support before challenges become crises.
๐Ÿ’šHope is a young person discovering their worth and believing in their future.
๐Ÿ’šHope is a community choosing compassion, responsibility and action.

This Youth Day, we honour the legacy of 1976 by investing in the youth of today. We commit ourselves to creating opportunities, strengthening support systems and building communities where every young person can experience dignity, belonging and hope.
The future is calling.

Badisaโ€™s response is care in action- strengthening families, building emotionally resilient young people and nurturing caring communities where hope can grow.

Because caring is more than a feeling.
๐Ÿ’šIt is action.
๐Ÿ’šAnd we are called to care.
