📢 NTEP is Updating How Software Versions Are Listed on Certificates of Conformance

For years, many NTEP Certificates of Conformance for Point-of-Sale Systems, Weigh-In/Weight-Out Systems, and Scale System Controllers have included software version numbers followed by the phrase "or higher." While common, this practice has created challenges for manufacturers, regulators, and NTEP alike.

A proposed change would eliminate "or higher" and provide clearer guidance on software version identification, helping regulators verify compliance more easily and giving manufacturers a better understanding of when software changes require NTEP review.

In this article, NTEP Administrator Jeff Gibson explains the two software versioning methods under consideration and how these changes could improve traceability and consistency across the industry.
