Dirk Kroll moved from Southern California to metro-Detroit at a young age with both a Sonny Rollins and an Eddie Cochran album in tow. Kroll's songs are influenced by early British pop-rock from across the Atlantic and back, blues, funk, ska and elements of Americana. Tagged as a musical architect, Kroll has been nominated for multiple Detroit Music Awards to date. He was awarded Outstanding Rock/
Pop Songwriter 2020 and 2021 as well as a Special Honoree for Outstanding Rock Songwriter for 2022. Kroll fronts the six/seven piece DIRK KROLL BAND featuring storied songs with blended vocal harmonies, guitars, bass, drums, keyboards and horn. His song collections can be heard on the many streaming services available and he continues to write and record songs regularly. "Composed of veterans of the Detroit music scene, the DKB are a ragtag group of well-seasoned musicians at the top of their game. The recording "Living Inside" offers an appealing mix of moody blues, surf rock guitar and the pop sensibilities of peak Elvis Costello. The album plays like your favorite record, the one that you found in the back of a vinyl shop and bought on a whim. Check out the track" I Like The Way", full of power-pop swagger with a catchy chorus. Their approach may not be novel, but it's solid; each solo or layered harmony rolls through easy like a summer afternoon. Pay close attention to the lyrics: melancholic, poetic and a little sly. Kroll takes his time with composition, crafting a smooth musical backdrop for his storytelling. The DKB represents the best of today's singer/songwriters, swirled with a touch of early Rolling Stones and aged well in a vat of Detroit's Rock and Roll. Enjoy". During the 2020 pandemic, DKB safely spent time at Rooftop Recording Studio in Grand Blanc and recorded a four pack of songs titled "Would It Be the Same" available for download and streaming, released in late December. THIS BROKEN PLAY is a ten song compilation, released in late 2018, with the title track sung by the multi-award winning and fabulous Tosha Owens featuring piano and cello. There’s reggae infused, Blues based, topical and Americana flavored storied songs accompanied by guitars, horns and keyboard. LIVING INSIDE was recorded live in 2015 at Magnetic Recording Studio in downtown Pontiac, MI. “ I was living in a very small house, honing my guitar skills and writing songs, gathered a few local musicians, performed some great shows and recorded at Magnetic. The title, conceptually, originates from where I was at the time~ living inside myself and trying to navigate where I was going with my original songs. At times, a lonely spot to be in, how to grow this thing and move forward”, notes Kroll. The analog recorded EP is flavored with rock, pop and a slice of blues. www.thedirkkrollband.com
