Mahabodhi Temple

Bodhgaya is a significant pilgrimage site in India, known as the place where Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment and became the Buddha around 528 BCE under the Bodhi Tree. It gained prominence during the reign of Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BCE, who built a temple and an Asoka Pillar there. The site thrived during the Gupta period (4th–6th century CE) as a center of Buddhist learning but declined after the 12th century as Buddhism waned in India. Today, the Mahabodhi Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, marks this historic location and attracts numerous pilgrims and tourists.
