It has to be done. When Hurricane Ian hit 2.5 years ago, we didn’t know the whirlwind we’d be on after our classic sailboat, - it’s been a thing. We live in Missouri, Moon Dragon lives on the hard in Florida. She was knocked down during the storm like a domino with 300 other boats. For 2 years, we’ve (and I mean mostly Matt) have been going back and forth to do repairs. That not only takes time, but the right time because epoxies and paints don’t like that summer heat. But our insurance company has given us an ultimatum with no flexibility - finish, get a survey done, by this certain date, and we’ll consider keeping you on. It’s not 💯 that they will despite a passing survey because she’s 50 years old this year (happy birthday, Moon Dragon 🌖 🐉!!). Some companies are finicky about that, even when the boat has been meticulously maintained and shown a history of being reliable and tough. So we’re doing our best, out here in the heat, sanding, painting, laying the last bits of fiberglass, and cleaning. Making her seaworthy and gorgeous with the greatest of hope that our survey on Tuesday goes smoothly with a good “grade.” We also know it’s time to let Moon Dragon move on to the next people who will love and enjoy her. Our life has changed and we’re living a more land-lubber-based life these days. We can hardly wait to get her ready for whomever that may be!
