Over 200 years ago, 20,000 Giant Tortoises were on Floreana Island in the Galapagos. However, whaling, a devastating fire, and relentless human exploitation eventually led to their complete extinction on the island. Now, after being extinct on the island for 150 years, the first group of tortoises have been released on the island! 158 out of the planned 700.
