August 6, 1993 – Rickson Gracie defeats Yoshinori Nishi in Japan

On this day, Rickson Gracie fought Yoshinori Nishi in the first Vale Tudo Japan event, held in Tokyo. Rickson won by rear-naked choke in the first round, continuing to build his legendary status.

This event helped introduce Gracie Jiu-Jitsu to a wider Japanese audience and paved the way for the 1994 Vale Tudo Japan tournament, where Rickson became internationally famous after dominating all his opponents. This series of events contributed to the foundation of PRIDE FC and further boosted BJJ’s global rise.
