The month of May was deliberately chosen to honor two major historical milestones for the AAPI community in the U.S.:

May 7, 1843: Marks the arrival of the first Japanese immigrant in the United States.

May 10, 1869: Marks the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad, which was built with the essential labor of tens of thousands of Chinese immigrants
