A lot of people think topping a tree makes it safer.

Usually it does the opposite.

When a tree loses too much canopy at once, it stresses the tree and forces aggressive regrowth.

That fast growth is often weakly attached and more likely to fail later.

Healthy pruning is about structure and long-term health—
not just cutting everything back.

Most tree problems don’t start obvious.
They start small.

A little lighter color…
A little thinning…
Something just looks slightly “off.”

That’s usually where the slow decline starts.
By the time it looks serious, your options are more limited.

It’s a lot easier - and usually less expensive - to deal with early.

If something looks off, it’s worth checking out - sooner rather than later.

Do your tree’s leaves look like this?

If you’re seeing lighter leaves with darker veins, that’s called chlorosis.

It usually means the tree isn’t getting the nutrients it needs—often iron.

Sometimes those nutrients are already in the soil…
the tree just isn’t able to take them in.

That can happen for a few reasons like soil conditions, root stress, or compaction.

The important part is figuring out what’s actually causing it.

Every tree is different, so the goal isn’t just to treat the symptom—
it’s to understand what’s stressing the tree and address that.

If you’re noticing something like this, it’s worth taking a closer look.

Teamwork is such an important part of the work we do as arborists.

Whether it's tackling bigger jobs together, learning new techniques from each other, or even just ensuring that we're all safe out in the field, I'm grateful for the arborists who have come alongside me.
