🗣️ One simple language strategy that makes a big difference: Say it 3 times.

By hearing the word multiple times in a meaningful, fun context, your child has repeated opportunities to connect the word with what they're seeing and doing. If they're ready, they may try to say it—but there's no pressure.

✨ Model.
✨ Pause.
✨ Play.

Children learn language best through connection, repetition, and shared experiences—not through drills or constant quizzing.

When your SLP and OT show up wearing the same outfit without planning it...

We guess spending all day collaborating on treatment plans, co-treats, and cheering on our kiddos means we’re officially sharing one brain cell... and now one wardrobe too.

Teamwork looks good on us.

The play may look effortless, but behind every toy, every game, and every activity is a therapist making clinical decisions, adapting challenges in real time, and helping your child build the foundational skills they need for everyday life.

Because when therapy feels like play...
✨ Children are motivated.
✨ They learn naturally.
✨ Skills carry over into real life.
✨ And that's where meaningful progress happens.

Kids should be free to explore, play, create, learn, make friends, and enjoy being kids—not constantly struggling to keep up with everyday tasks.

Occupational therapy is about so much more than handwriting or fine motor skills.

OT helps children build the foundational skills they need to confidently participate in everyday life, including:
✨ Emotional regulation
✨ Sensory processing
✨ Attention and focus
✨ Motor planning and coordination
✨ Strength and balance
✨ Self-care skills like dressing, feeding, and toileting
✨ Confidence, independence, and play

When a child is overwhelmed by their environment, avoiding activities, frustrated by daily routines, or having difficulty participating at home, school, or in the community, OT helps uncover the why behind those challenges.

🍽️ When picky eating isn't just picky eating...

It's common for toddlers and young children to go through phases of picky eating—but sometimes, feeding challenges are a sign that a child needs extra support.

Here are a few signs to look for:
• Eats fewer than 10 foods
• Missing entire food groups from their diet (like protein, fruits, or vegetables)
• Refuses food so often that meals are regularly skipped
• Will only eat foods that are a specific brand, shape, color, or presentation
• Has significant distress or behavioral meltdowns when new foods are offered

If these challenges sound familiar, feeding therapy may help.

At Add Therapy Center, our feeding therapists use the SOS (Sequential Oral Sensory) Approach to Feeding, a play-based, child-led approach that helps children build confidence with food—without pressure or force.

🗣️ What is a Gestalt Language Processor?

A Gestalt Language Processor (GLP) learns language in chunks or "gestalts" rather than starting with single words. Instead of learning one word at a time, they often acquire and use longer phrases that they've heard before and gradually break them down into smaller, flexible pieces of language.

Signs a child may be a Gestalt Language Processor:
✨ Uses phrases or scripts from favorite shows, songs, or people
✨ Repeats longer chunks of language instead of single words
✨ Uses the same phrase across different situations
✨ May seem to have a large vocabulary but struggle to answer questions or create novel sentences
✨ Mixes and shortens familiar phrases into new combinations
✨ Uses language that sounds advanced at times but may not always match the context

It's important to remember that Gestalt Language Processing is not a disorder, delay, or deficit—it's simply another way that some children develop language.

When people think about progress in speech therapy, they often think about one thing: new words.

But progress is so much more than that.
✨ A child paying attention for longer periods of time
✨ Increased confidence during interactions
✨ Trying a new way to communicate
✨ Engaging with peers and family members
✨ Reduced frustration and fewer communication breakdowns
✨ Parents understanding what their child is trying to say
✨ A child feeling heard, understood, and successful

Sometimes the biggest victories aren't the words we hear—they're the connections we see.
