While Republicans attack nonprofit hospitals, I offered an amendment in Ways & Means to address one of the most pressing issues in health care: the infiltration of private equity firms.

My remarks before Republicans defeated my amendment on a party-line vote:

Wasteful overpayments to Medicare Advantage insurers should be criminal. I filed the Saving MEDICARE Act to stop waste, fraud, and abuse that is costing taxpayers tens of billions each year. Returning resources to provide better Medicare to more Americans.

Former IDF hostage chief reveals Israeli ministers blocked hostage deals that could have brought roughly 40 hostages home alive. Nitzan Alon says the war could've ended a year earlier, but Smotrich pushed "total victory" over ceasefires.

Now Netanyahu says the war "never ends,” opting for endless war over ending the suffering of both Israelis and Palestinians.

Trump's plan to dismantle the Education Department shifts special education and civil rights protections to agencies whose work have little to do with learning.

For Austinites, that could mean poor oversight of your child's Individualized Education Program or anti-discrimination rights. This risks more chaos and places special education in a position to be labeled as “welfare” to be cut by Republicans.

House Republicans tried to hand Trump a dangerous new power last year: the ability to strip any charity of its tax-exempt status with little more than an accusation.

I led the fight against this “nonprofit killer” when they first attached it as a poison pill to legislation meant to help Americans held hostage abroad.

Though threats to nonprofits from the Trump regime continue, this provision was just dropped. Hostages get relief; Trump denied another tool to target opponents.
